Network and fee details

Why Ethereum?

Ethereum brings payments and programmable assets onto one network. ETH is its native coin, while tokens such as USDT and USDC give you other assets to hold and send between compatible wallets and services.

For someone paid in Ethereum-based tokens, that means receiving and managing those assets from an account they control. ETH also powers the transactions that move tokens and interact with Ethereum applications.

In Freedom Wallet

ETH pays for moving your tokens.

Freedom Wallet’s Ethereum wallet supports native ETH and ERC-20 tokens, including USDT and USDC. You can add a token using its contract details, see its balance and prepare a transfer from your own wallet on mobile or desktop.

Keep ETH in the wallet even when you mainly hold tokens. Sending an ERC-20 token uses Ethereum gas, paid in ETH. A token balance by itself does not cover that fee. Gas estimates can change as network demand changes.

Network selection
Use Ethereum when sending to this wallet. The same address format on another EVM network does not establish that the app supports that network.
Token identity
Check a token’s contract address against its issuer’s official information. Anyone can copy a token name or symbol.
Third-party swaps
Available swap routes have their own quotes, limits and provider terms. Check the receiving network as well as the token name.

Before you send

An Ethereum address has a public history.

ETH transfers, token movements and contract activity are visible on-chain. Holding the keys yourself does not make them anonymous. Be careful about connecting an address to your identity or approving an unfamiliar contract.

Ethereum gas and network fees

Set up ETH and your tokens

  1. Create an Ethereum wallet

Select Ethereum in Freedom Wallet, then create or restore a compatible wallet. Save its recovery phrase.

  2. Check the token contract

Use a supported token or add one with verified contract details. Confirm it is the Ethereum version of the asset.

  3. Keep ETH for gas

Receive some ETH on Ethereum before planning token transfers. Review the gas estimate and full recipient address before confirming.

Ethereum questions

Can I hold USDT and USDC?
Yes. The Ethereum wallet supports their ERC-20 versions. Check the network and contract; USDT on TRON, for example, belongs in a TRON wallet.
Why do I need ETH to send a token?
Ethereum charges gas for transactions, including ERC-20 transfers. The fee is paid in ETH, so a wallet holding only USDT or USDC may not be able to send until it has enough ETH.
Does the same address work on every EVM chain?
An address can look the same across several EVM networks. That does not mean Freedom Wallet supports each of those networks. Use Ethereum for the Ethereum wallet and verify the selected network on the sending side.
Is Ethereum supported on desktop?
Yes. ETH and ERC-20 wallets are available on macOS, Windows and Linux as well as iPhone and Android. Optional services and dApp features can differ by platform.
